Moisture-heat coupling in a tank

By using a new discrete element pore density flow method, the coupled hydro-thermal field is realized by Matdem. The GeoThermalBox example completes a two-dimensional coupled numerical simulation of water and heat transfer. The box is 3 m wide and 1.5 m high, and is divided into three layers. The element has a specific permeability radius, and the permeability coefficient of the middle layer is low.

Initially, the model was filled with water at a temperature of 12 degrees, with 30 degrees of warm water in the upper left corner, 3 degrees of cold water in the lower left corner, and drainage in the lower right corner.

Fix the coordinates of discrete element unit, and using the laptop to compute for 25 mins.

The figure below is the temperature field graph in the simulation process. Because the outlet is in the lower right corner, the cold water injected from the lower left corner moves gradually to the right along the bottom pervious layer, "pushing" the original water body and making the water temperature drop. The hot water in the upper left-hand corner moves along the upper pervious layer and percolates to the weak pervious layer in the middle.

The numerical simulation of muti-field and fluid-struture based on MatDEM will be introduced during the China Rock 2019 meeting(Beijing).
