2D hydraulic fracturing

By using a new discrete element pore density flow method, the coupled hydro-thermal field is realized by Matdem. The PoreHydraulic example completes a two-dimensional numerical simulation of hydraulic fracturing. The model consists of 10408 particles and 13567 initial pores. With a laptop, the simulation took 70 minutes and 0.002 seconds in the real world.

The mechanical properties of the samples by gravity stacking are similar to that of shale, but they are isotropic.

In the center of the numerical model, a constant water pressure of 100 MPA was applied to simulate 0.002 seconds real-world time. Three micro-fractures with an angle of nearly 120 degrees are formed in ISOTROPIC rock. The figure below shows the pore water pressure diagram. The warm color represents the higher pore water pressure

hydraulicPressure

The figure below represents the displacement of units, and the warm colors represents larger unit displacement.

hydraulicDisplacement

The figure represents the displacement field at the end of the simulation.

The muti-field and fluid-structure coupling oon the basis of MatDEM will be introduced in detail during China Rock 2019 meeting(Beijing).
