example of a 3D slope

MatDEM can realize 3D landslide simulation.By further adding water, the disaster mechanism of landslide under multi-field and multi-phase complex conditions, such as hydrothermal, solid-liquid gas, etc., can be studied.

The length, width and height of the model are 100*50*41 meters, and the model includes 320,000 elements. The property of the model are set as low-strength weakly consolidated soil. The process simulates real world time for 9 seconds and the calculation takes 4 hours.See the software example BoxModel.

Demo 1: displacement diagram, with warm colors representing high displacement.A distinct sliding surface can be seen.

Demo 2: sectional view of landslide heat distribution.A large amount of heat is generated in the slip zone, which is likely to intensify the disaster effects of landslides (reducing shear strength and effective stress).

Demo 3: sectional view of landslide heat distribution. There is frictional heat on the front and rear boundary and obvious heat in the central zone.

Demo 4: dark red represents the weak layer, and the slip zone starts developing along the weak layer and erodes the slide bed.

Demo 5: dark red represents  the weak layer, and the slip zone starts developing along the weak layer and erodes the slide bed.

FIG. 6 energy conversion curve.Gravitational potential energy of landslide is converted into kinetic energy, which returns to zero after rising. Mechanical energy is converted into heat, and system energy is conserved.

FIG. 7 system heat generation diagram .Most of the heat is generated by friction(Slipping) .
