" Matrix Discrete Element Analysis of Geological and Geotechnical Engineering" is published!

Over the course of a year, " Matrix Discrete Element Analysis of Geological and Geotechnical Engineering" was finally published. It is a very long and arduous road for the theory research, system development and application of discrete element method.During the development of MatDEM and the writing of this book, I got help and guidance from many experts and scholars. Here I would like to express my heartfelt thanks!

Introduction to the book:

Discrete element method can effectively simulate the discontinuity, non-uniformity and large deformation and failure of rock and soil mass.Based on the original matrix discrete element calculation method, the author developed the high-performance discrete element software MatDEM from scratch, and realized the discrete element numerical simulation of millions of elements. On the basis of introducing the basic principle and algorithm of discrete element method, this book introduces the basic structure, modeling method, numerical calculation process, post-processing and system function of MatDEM in detail.Examples of applications in the field of geology and geotechnical engineering are presented, including basic geotechnical engineering problems, discrete element tests, 3D landslides, dynamic action and multi-field coupling. This book is equipped with video for teaching, software and video for teaching can be obtained from the following website: http://matdem.com.This book can be used for reference by scientific research and engineering technicians in the fields of geology, geotechnical, water conservancy, civil engineering, mining and physics, as well as senior undergraduates and postgraduates of colleges and universities.

This book is divided into two parts, the first part of the basic chapter. In Chapter 1, the basic principle, calculation method and engineering application prospect of DEM are briefly introduced.

For the systematic theory and calculation method of discrete element method, please refer to "introduction to particle matter mechanics" (by Sun Qicheng and Wang Guangqian of Tsinghua University) and "computational particle mechanics and engineering applications" (by Ji Shunying of Dalian University of Technology) and other professional books. For the continuous - discontinuous theory, contact model and macro - micro theory of discrete elements, please refer to the related papers and monographs of Li Shihai, Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Jiang Mingjing, Tongji University.Chapter 2 ~ 5 mainly introduces the basic structure and function of MatDEM, as well as modeling process and post-processing function. Data in the software is organized in an object-oriented manner, and all computational data can be viewed, edited, saved, imported, and continued in the software. In the basic part, the basic process, data organization and meaning of matrix DEM are introduced in detail, as well as the concept and usage of element, connection, group, material and load. In particular, MatDEM provides a commercial software standard post-processing module that can easily generate dozens of images, as well as producing Gifs of the simulation process. By reading these contents, you can quickly grasp the basic principles of the discrete element method and the use of software.

The second part is the practical part. In Chapter 6, the conventional steps of modeling and numerical simulation of MatDEM are introduced in detail with three examples of pile-soil interaction, tunnel modeling and Shield Cutter Breaking Rock. In Chapter 7, direct shear test, torsion shear test and true triaxial test are taken as examples to introduce how to construct the whole model by function, and how to establish three-dimensional complex cracks and joints. In Chapter 8, taking 3D landslide modeling as an example, this paper introduces how to construct a complex 3D model using digital elevation data. Chapter 9 introduces the numerical simulation of dynamic action, including meteorite impact on the ground, mine slope blasting and seismic dynamic action. In Chapter 10, the advanced self-defined parameters and secondary development function are introduced, and the complex multi-field coupled processes such as ground settlement, microwave-assisted rock breaking and thermal-mechanical coupling of energy piles are simulated. From simple to complex, Chapter 6-10 introduces 13 application examples. By modifying and comprehensively applying these examples, numerical simulation of various geological and engineering problems can be carried out, and various scientific research and engineering problems can be analyzed and solved.
